Aqueous Show with Art Fluent

I’m thrilled to share that my painting Seafoam is part of Art Fluent’s online exhibition Aqueous, celebrating the beauty of water in all its forms. Art Fluent is an organization based in Boston, that supports artists worldwide through exhibitions and grant opportunities.

When I saw the call for entry late last year, I knew I had to enter this painting, which is inspired by the deep blue hues of Puget Sound near my home in Seattle. I’m so honored that this piece was one of only 60 chosen for this show out of nearly 600 entries from around the world.

This painting went through quite an evolution last year. I started it in April as part of my Indigo series. After the first few layers, it was mostly thin glazes of paint with some mark-making (see below).

I set it aside for a while to work on other things and then returned to it a few months later. I kept building up layers of paint and adding mark-making, including some writing, which is now partially hidden. It says “I’m connected to the magic of myself.” I heard artist Nicholas Wilton say that on his podcast and I love it, as it sums up how I feel during the creative process.

The thick white shapes were applied toward the end in big gestural strokes with a painter’s trowel. They remind me of the frothy waves churned up by ferry boats as they travel back and forth across Puget Sound. When we travel to and from the islands here in the summer, I love standing on the back of the ferry looking down into those foamy waves.

This painting is 24x24” on 1.5” thick canvas and is available on my website. If you’d like it framed, I can provide it in a beautiful maple floater frame for an additional cost. Feel free to reach out to me for more details.
